烟火的季节
One of those days that i woke up feeling all charged for exploration. I spruced myself up and left with laptop in hand hoping to find a place to chill. It was also the day of my virgin ride on the “deng-deng” (Hong Kong’s iconic cable bus) to Wanchai and then Causeway Bay. For a mere HK$2 it was well worth the novelty.
In Wanchai, I kept walking through the small lanes and housing areas as i wanted to get a feel of their living environment - Hongkong feels like Singapore, but grittier, they don’t rush to paint nicely aged walls or tear down old buildings. It makes living in a space of juxtaposed-eras interesting.

When i was done walking, retreated back to what has become my regular haunt of late - Krispy Kreme. It’s a nice place to watch the world go by, well-situated in the SOHO district - but to begin with who’s to say no to donuts and coffee? I was there posting an entry, updating facebook and chatting with people online. The book i brought along never got it’s day.

As the night approaches, i wondered what the rest of the evening has in store for me. I browsed through a stack of newspaper dumped near the counter and got a major hint.

Sweetness. Fireworks for free sounds like the undisputed awesome way to go. So off i went - back home to drop off my laptop, armed myself with warmer clothes and headed to IFC mall (overlooking the magnificent harbour view) to watch the festive show.

Even before the performance began, the Central Pier was quite a sight to behold. I was an hour early to secure a good spot. Luckily i was plugged into Jack Johnson’s latest and enjoyed jiving along while waiting.

The spectacular 25mins display received many awes and ahs from the spectators. I too had a good time but by then was too cold to emote facially. A warm dinner and a movie from the bed ended another day of my HK escapade.
