weekend musing

“Never once doubt your innate talent. You are wise beyond your years, i can be straight forth with you - you don’t have to wait till you have gained all the experience before you start making the right decisions.”

But i don’t know what is right. How do i make a good decision if not guided by a past reference? Even if i did, situations evolve over time, change is the only constant. One year a ghoulish construction worker, the next a spooky troubled little imp and then suddenly, a flamboyant fashion maestro. Change is elemental and yet also serves as the perfect recipe for disaster - delayed schedules, bad choice of location and just enough reasons to get one down. In the end, only the people around you mattered. It was still awesome.

Running along the coastline, i looked afar at the distant horizon. It reminded me of better times when my life was just beginning to take shape. I was a helpless optimist dreaming of the infinite possibilities ahead - didn’t need to factor whether i had what it took, merely creating images after another. Through the fleeting silhouette of people who ran past, i wondered how many of them are living their dreams like i am; doing something they love. 已經找到愛 為何要離開?

To the one who promised me a future of limitless growth, ma homies that rocked the other wise catastrophic halloween party and the inspiring marathon in the morning that helped revive a lost feeling of hope.

《一人一半》
演唱:伍加輝
改編詞:小寒 曲:伍加輝

一人一半 感情不散
一人一素故 感情才會久
時光累計 安靜的淚滴
一心去追 愛那么可貴

Chorus:

Repeat Chorus*

一人一半 感情不散
已經找到愛 為何要離開
已經找到愛 為何先離開

her perfume…

Never really quite got over this commercial, like i can still watch Moulin Rouge repeatedly and still enjoy it. Given that both were produced and directed by the fabulous Australian export, Baz Luhrmann. This Chanel ad’s almost a complete sample of the movie given new context, but nethertheless brilliant.

What were they thinking?

Every time i’m at an electronic store i wonder; despite the technology of television improving over the years - brilliant LCD Plasma design, HDMI input clarity, superb sound stereos; the demo video displayed to showcase these technological advancement still reeks of images of yester-years. I mean how many images of colourful hot air balloons and variety of fishes can one take? And the models…which era were they from? Big, dry, curly hair and apparels in the gaudiest neon spectrum. Was it filmed by the same group of talents responsible for major Karaoke video hits like “How Do I Live (…walking on the road wearing only a bikini and flipping my hair in all possible angle)” or “Because You Love Me (… visiting the tourist spots of a southeast asia country whilst leaning on all the walls and trees, trying to emote).

They somehow managed to find the ugliest of caucasians and place those “russian hookers”-looking girls to present the idea of a ground-breaking technology that would guarantee hours of entertainment back home. It’ll probably work if i still listen to Eurthymics and put shoulder pads into all my shirt. What were they thinking?

remember my name, fame.

It’s happening, I’m starting to receive mails at work on a daily basis. It used to be a few courier deliveries and invoices from photographers and photo libraries - the kind where you don’t even have to open the envelope to know what it’s about. Lately, i’ve been getting the real deal in the form of invites for events and product launches. It’s quite flattering to think people from these companies want your first-hand opinion on their products or season line, and that you do get the latest update on all things fashion or trend related.

I have to admit, i do enjoy basking momentarily in the limelight. I mean, afterall, i am in media and working on several publications that enjoys a good mix of demographics. It’s bound to count for something at the end of the day. And my day, well, is usually gut-wrenching, blood-spilling -  that’s worthy of a soap opera script (think The Bold and Beautiful).

Today, while in the midst of a meeting, my receptionist passed me an envelope. It contains two gold class tickets to watch any film my heart desires. In an instant, the room darken and everyone else fade into oblivion; i spun around holding up my complimentary tickets and when i stopped, a signage with my name spelled out in lightbulbs lowered and the lights started running, it got brighter till one by one the filament burst and glass started flying in all directions. I started smiling uncontrollably. My senior designer shot me a stare. “Siao. You ho say bo?”

Sometimes, i really think i bo ho say. But can you blame me?

which one’s your type?

I’m on a new diet. You may have heard of  it - the Blood type diet. Basically, it claims that you should eat foods that are beneficial and non-toxic according to your blood type. I chanced upon it a few weeks back when i was still on my low-carb diet. You see, i am a success story of the low-carb diet 4 years back when i experimented it with a friend who wanted to lose weight. Moral support aside, i was a huge skeptic of its effectiveness and had to be proven wrong. Unfortunately, to my friend’s dismay, she gained weight instead.

In need to shed some flab around my ”snack n’ beer” waist recently, i went back on it and decided to find out more. After all these while, i finally discovered our different blood type may have played the all important role in explaining the vast contrast in our little experiment back then.

Type 1: A blood group
Low in dairy and eliminate all meat from their diet. Avoid butterfish, pistachios and sherbet. Foods should be eaten in their natural form. Vegetables to be eaten raw or steamed. Eat fruit 3 times a day.

Type 2: B blood group
Diet high in meat (except chicken and bacon), moderate fish, high in dairy, fruits and vegetables. Avoid processed foods, limit nuts and seeds.

Type 3: AB blood group
Follow a vegetarian diet and include some meat and dairy.

Type 4: O blood group
A diet high in meat and fish, olive oil. Moderate in eggs, nuts and seed, certain fruit and vegetables. Avoid all grains and cereal, beans, avocados, oranges and dairy.

I’m a Type 4. In other words, people with O Blood type are most suited to go on the Low Carb diet. After going through a basic food listing, i’m further convinced as i have been following it closely… unknowingly.

But don’t take my word for it, this diet has had it’s fair share of critics:

From Wikipedia
“Blood type diet has met with many criticisms. The fundamental criticisms are first, that none of the hundreds of citations to others’ research on blood groups directly support the claims of differential food tolerances, and second, that the diet provides no comparative clinical trials demonstrating efficacy of it.”

I guess it’s a good reference for eating well, knowing what’s good for us. Think all these sound a tad absurd, check out more wacky diets here. ;O
