its about time…
On the first day of September, i’m happy to announce my official return to the rat race.
Engaged by a media group, riding on high expectations thanks to my lady boss’s recommendation. I’ll be working on a new publication dued for its inaugural issue at the end of the year. I’m anticipating eagerly but also a tad intimidated by the extend of the task at hand. 真所谓又期待又怕受伤害!
I went out and splurged on foreign magazines for my research as this is my first time venturing into the unfamiliar grounds of an editorial environment. I need all the help i can get. I’m counting on luck to work its magic as well. If you have spare, wish me some. :p My entire eighteen ancestral line will thank you.

千里来相会

周杰伦新歌「千里之外」找来天王费玉清合唱,令人期待;

WOMAD’06
I’ve never been to WOMAD although i’ve heard loads about it. To be honest, i’ve always thought of it as nothing more than just another “ethnic” art performance with musicians on percussions and some primitive-looking dude jumping around like a mad horse. Celebrating diversity aside, i wasn’t too keen on watching something that abstract.
But still, when WQ told me she had tickets to the event, i was really happy to go for it.
Upon our arrival at the premise, there were already a crowd of patrons packed within. We located the reception held by WQ’s business partners - A swanky little room with aircon at full blast (thank god!), nice selections of the finest hors d’oeuvres with red/white wines beckoning to soothe any discomfort from the maddening heat outside. I did not expect such a resplendent welcome…it was definitely a life-saving oasis.
i like this picture!
Before long, we were out soaking in the music-filled atmosphere. I couldn’t have been more wrong about the whole “abstract ethnicity” concept. Music does transcend all barriers. There was this band from Jamaica (i think) that totally rocked. They got everyone jiving to their groovy sounds and even got us to sing along even though we had no idea what was being sung. It was so good that it even deterred us from wanting to leave early. So we stayed on till they ended their set and continued to haunt the grounds checking out the rest of the acts.
Look how my shirt is drenched in sweat!
In the spirit of the Party Crasher Alliance, i say we are back on tip-top form. haha.

i did it!
I finally did what i’ve been wanting to do - to turn down a dreary conversation with a taxi driver.
Ten minutes in, taxi uncle looks into a distance and said, “This area used to be a cemetery…”
Silence. I look out of the window.
“The Japanese used to own this place”
Silence. Pretends to be more engaged in the happenings outside than his lame stories. *Yawnz*
“er…thomson road isit?”
“Yes…” i said without looking at him.
Silence.
I never felt more proud about being rude. I did it. Muahaha…mmmu…mmuaahahhaha!

OMG!

the copy reads, ” My secret to beautiful skin? I swallow.”
I took this from browns blog. It’s an actual advertisement featuring our Queen of Caldecott endorsing more than a product…
Whoever responsible for the copy should be shot. Oops…no pun intended.
I wonder if she knew what she got herself into? Does she understand what an embarrassment this is?
AN UPDATE: The queen has spoken! She thinks the internet community at large are very imaginative and creative to have mis-intepret what was just an action of swallowing a pill. I think she is a dim-wit. She obviously don’t get it.
man, i can’t jump.
The 2.4km run.
Everyone i know fears it. The mere mention of it send shivers down the spines of the macho-est, most confident of men. Me? I have no problems with it whatsoever. I came in first at my annual IPPT yesterday clocking my personal best of 9mins 54secs. If you’re beginning to think i’m bragging about my triumph, you cannot be more wrong… i only managed a silver placing.
4cm. That’s what cost me a hefty $200. In my weakest segment - the standing broad jump, I attempted a total of 5 times with hopes to jump a minimum of 234cm to qualify for a gold placing. It started with a promising 230cm, but the more i jumped the less i covered. 2 separate testers came forth to coach me how to jump but to no signs of improvement. Alas, i couldn’t bear the humiliation anymore and gave up.
KNN. Who needs to know how to jump anyway? NB.
click! and breakup!

The movie Click stars the lovable Adam Sandler in his usual role as the endearing loser who needs a break from a series of unfortunate incidents made up mostly with his classic slapstick antics. In this film, a powerful remote control holds the key to all his problems. With it, he is almost invincible warping through time by controlling his life like a DVD menu. Yes, think selecting varied chapters within the time-line of your existence and adding commentaries as and when you like it.
On the other hand, control is precisely what Vince Vaughn’s character, Gary, lacks in The Breakup. Like how most passionate relationship often ends in a damp sizzle, we are brought into that moment when petty squabbles eventually gets the better of his relationship with Brooke (Jennifer Aniston). In a heated scene when things start spiraling down, the two begins distancing themselves more than they had planned. And after a few rounds of overtures and underminings (no thanks to bad advices from friends), the damage eventually becomes un-rectifiable and they are left worn and beaten with nothing but regrets for what could have been.
I enjoyed both films. I enjoyed both the leading ladies, namely Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Aniston, each stunning in their own way. I’ve always found Kate Beckinsale to be a little inhumanly perfect. I’ve yet to see a perkier pair of breast in my lifetime, how she achieves it is a mystery to me. (Ex) Mrs Brad Pitt still captivates the screen with her perfect hue of tan and gorgeous locks in every close-up, even though her petite frame seemed a little dwarf-like next to the oddly tall Vince Vaughn.
The first film ended with a moral: that life is only meaningful when you choose to savour it in its entirety and not take anything for granted. The latter made me think about how somethings in life are meant to be.
I guess that makes us destiny’s bitches.
