reaching new heights

The fear i grapple with each morning when i wake up during this trip is bad weather, imagine my relief when the sun glared down upon us as we set out island hopping in Nhra Trang. I have no clear idea what the day was gonna be like, only know for sure we will snorkel and see some fish village. But boy! Was i in for a treat! If i ever thought this trip was not gonna get any better, i was utterly, sure as hell, off the mark… mistaken!

We set off on a mini van, got to the harbour and boarded a boat where we’ll be entertained on for the rest of the day. The “host” aka Funky Monkey told everyone he was gonna be leading us through the programs and did his darnest to lighten up everyone’s mood. Before we had time to wonder away, we reached the snorkelling spot. Half the passesengers on board were locals and strangely none of them had come on this tour with the intention to dive. So there we were; silly tourists jumping off the boat, drifting about in our big round floats like a circus act. For a split second it almost felt like we were there entertaining the spectators on board with our antics. This will sadly be true in a couple of hours away…

After a sumptous lunch we anchored on another spot and the liqour came pouring. The sea instantly became our pool bar as we laid in our floats savouring delicious vietnamese wine with pineapple slices. It felt so right basking in the sun, relishing in the carelessness of being… now that’s what i call a real pampering! A certain angmo had a drink too many and let’s just say he decided to be our main sort of entertainment for the rest of the journey. He sang, hopped around with glee, wrestled people down to have photos taken with him and practically cracked up everyone on board when he decided to re-enact the Titanic scene at the tip of the boat. Shortly, he blacked out and laid unconscious on the boat while everyone else went onto shore to participate in watersports.

We did para-sailing.
In one word, the experience was simply magical. The closest feeling to actually flying and there i was taking it all in: being lifted into the air and getting a bird’s eye view of the beach was such an incredible feeling… that US$15 can buy. Haha, for 4 minutes that is. We left the tour yearning for more, we made friends and ultimately fulfilled our journey in Nha Trang.
6 days on and not a moment wasted… i’m so not missing home right now.
